Immerse yourself in the local music scene at these 12 clubs. None are on Bourbon Street and all are walking distance or a 15-minute ride from the French Quarter. Expect energetic dancing crowds reacting to the fusion of rock, blues and jazz we call GUMBO. These are as far away from velvet-roped clubs as you can get, most are standing room only with a stage at one end and several bars along the side and back walls. Gumbo style music is the norm at all clubs except Preservation Hall and Snug Harbor. Preservation Hall presents iconic jazz during normal hours and fusion after hours. Snug Harbor features two seated sets per night and focuses on straight ahead local and touring jazz musicians. It is owned and operated by Wynton Marsalis’ father, Ellis – reservations suggested.
