NOLA has diners and the best is Slim Goodies on Magazine Street in the Irish Channel. Eclectic, fun and filled with local characters, Slim Goodies serves an outstanding breakfast – and always with local flare.
The menu ranges from the expected – pancakes, omelets and eggs – to the unusual. My favorite is the creole slammer – fresh grilled shredded hash browns with two sunny side up fried eggs topped with crawfish etouffee and a biscuit on the side.
Expect a bit of a wait – sign in and grab a cup of coffee. I like to sit at the counter and watch the cooks grind out dish after dish in their impossibly small kitchen. I dare you not to chuckle while you listen to the high volume rapid banter between the cooks and wait staff. These guys DO IT RIGHT!
